A protected tropical rainforest in Malaysia Endau Rompin National Park covers an approximate area of 48905 hectares which gives it the status as second largest national park in Malaysia after Taman Negara. Being one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world this National Park is home to numerous rock formations some of which are 248 million years old.
Much loved by conservationists and nature lovers this park is made up of a lush pristine tropical rainforest. With a major sandstone plateau Endau Rompin is the breaking point of a number of rivers such as Selai River Endau River and Jasin River. The park’s name comes from the Endau and Rompin rivers that flow magnificently through the park.
Since the area is largely underdeveloped and has the least of infrastructure obtaining entry permits is a prerequisite. Visitors will have to provide two passport sized photographs and a photocopy of their identity card or passport. One of the best reasons to obtain a permit is the fact that the park features the largest collection of a rare population the world; the Sumatran Rhinoceros.
The most spectacular feature of the park however is the remarkable Buaya Sangkut waterfall on the Jasin River. The Livistona Endauensis fan palms can also be found in Endau Rompin National Park. This breathtakingly beautiful park is also related to several mythology and one such legend is the Upih Guling which is to be found on the way to the Buaya Sangkut Waterfalls.
Kampung Peta and Nitar are the two entry points to the park.
